Lisa and her husband, Andy, have been missionaries with World Impact since 1986. In that time, she and Andy have helped start five urban churches, mentored pastors and discipled countless women and men in the city.
Lisa grew up in a small town northeast of Wichita and knew she had a call to minister in the “inner city” when she was 15 years old. She was reluctant to even go to college because she wanted to jump into missions, but her parents did not give her that option! Her willingness to attend college was helped by the offer of a basketball scholarship from Tabor College. She graduated with a degree in Social Work in 1983 and met her husband, Andy while at Tabor. On just their second date, she told Andy, “I am called to be a missionary and will most likely remain single, so if you want to discontinue dating that is fine.” Andy told her he would take his chances. They were married in June of 1982 and they both share a love for the Lord and a love for the lost in the city.
Lisa and Andy raised their four children in the inner cities of Wichita and Los Angeles and are blessed with six grandchildren. An athlete and coach at heart, Lisa continues to use her coaching abilities to train up leaders within World Impact and in the community. Lisa and Andy served their first six years in Wichita helping to establish "Celebration Church" and also working with hundreds of youth and teens. Lisa also ministered to many women, having regular Bible studies with them in her home.
In 1992 World Impact transferred them to Los Angeles where they began a new outreach on Raymond Street to work with youth and adults. Here, also, Lisa invested in a number of ladies in her neighborhood. In 1996, they transferred back to Wichita to continue church planting ministry. During these years, along with her ministry and family, Lisa also was on a national team that interviewed and assessed all incoming missionaries to World Impact, a role that she continues to have today.
Starting in 2000, Lisa and Andy were part of the Lighthouse Community Church plant where she was integral in establishing a strong women’s ministry that still flourishes today. In 2010 Lisa began serving as the Director of Church Planting in Wichita. In the five years following, Lisa helped launch two churches, one Spanish and one English in addition to helping launch the Christ The Victor church planting movement. Also during this time, Lisa began going with Andy to conduct pastoral visits with World Impact staff and leaders around the country.
In 2015 Lisa accepted the position of Senior Vice President for the Religious Missionary Order (RMO) and Team Care. In this role, she provides care, shepherding, and leadership for the RMO and its missionaries and oversees healthy practices for all World Impact staff. She travels quite frequently to most of the World Impact cities across the country where she enjoys getting to personally know all the staff.
Lisa and Andy enjoy their role as parents and even more now as grandparents to five grandsons and one sweet granddaughter. Their oldest daughter, Tina is a missionary with World Impact, married to Daren Busenitz who is the Midwest Regional Vice President for World Impact. Their daughter Dana is a school teacher in Wichita and her husband, Nick, is a medical technologist. Their son Scott is a Wichita firefighter following his service in the Marine Corp and is married to Joetta Ewert, a school teacher. Their youngest son, Luke is finishing a duel degree in history and secondary education at Newman University in Wichita.
